The Bari Weiss/60 Minutes/Nick Bilton/Scott Pelley story has gone through a lot of twists and turns over the past 48 hours. I won’t recap it all again here, but if you need a refresher, check out this piece I wrote last night for Forbes.

But since Pelley was fired yesterday, my inbox and WhatsApp has been filled with messages from staffers on 60 Minutes and CBS News, passing along news, thoughts about the changes on the show and other things they’ve heard.

One person who I would describe as “familiar with Stahl’s thinking explained it this way:

Look, she’s 84. She had already been thinking about what the future looked like for her before all of these changes happened. She’s had her own frustrations over the last year and she wasn’t happy about the way Weiss did an end-around her with the Netanyahu interview.

She’s an institutionalist, and she felt that allowing him to choose the reporter he wanted to have interview him was bad journalism.

Six months ago, I would have predicted she would stay on the show in some low-level emeritus role. But it’s hard to see that happening now.

And while Stahl apparently keeps her opinions on Weiss and her future on the show close to the vest, these comments are similar to ones I heard from maybe a half dozen people associated with the show:

Lesley is an old school reporter, and I mean that in the best way. She doesn’t have any doubts about her journalism skills and she believes she deserves to be shown the respect that comes with her experience.

Weiss talks a good game about teamwork and respect, but I don’t know anyone on the show who believes she actually feels that way. That’s why so many people applauded Scott at the end of his comments in Monday’s meeting. He spoke for us and he wanted us to see it.

That’s not Lesley’s style. I would be shocked if she stays, but she’s not going out with a bang. They’ll announce she’s leaving and then she may talk about the current state of the show in some carefully curated interview.

Despite everything, I think she loves the show and (most) of the people working here.

YouTube Overtakes Netflix for Average Daily Viewing Time

Digital i released a study this morning called The YouTube Era, which tracks continued growth in daily viewing on the platform, a shift in consumption from mobile devices to TV, and how audience engagement compares with streaming giant Netflix.

The findings are based on Digital i’s measurement across 20 international markets in 2024 and 2025.

Here are a few data points I thought were worth pointing out:

💠 YouTube is pulling ahead for daily audience attention. Average daily usage per account rose from 87.2 to 99.1 minutes from 2024 to 2025, while Netflix dropped from 100.5 to 93.4 minutes.

💠 Netflix remains a major force on YouTube. Its official channel had the highest reach (78.2 million unique accounts) of any channel in 2025.

💠 YouTube’s shift to the living room continued. TV’s share of viewing time rose from 28% to 35% between January 2024 and December 2025, while mobile fell from 35% to 31%.

And here some charts from the report that illustrate some interesting comparisons between Netflix and YouTube usage:

“YouTube’s evolution from a social video service into a dominant global attention platform is one of the defining media shifts of the decade. Our data shows audiences increasingly treating YouTube not as social media, but as a primary entertainment destination.”

Matt Ross, Digital i’s chief analytics officer

It is worth noting that - like any study - this data comes with caveats. The study provides global, granular channel-level reporting for YouTube and program-level reporting for Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and Disney+. Live viewing data for Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max is not currently collected. Repeat viewing within a single month is not counted. Which still leaves a lot of viewing unaccounted for in this study.

Odds & Sods

  • Versant Media Group has taken a minority stake in GammaTime, the microdrama streaming app, as part of a Series A funding round. The agreement includes adapting stories based on Versant channel brands as vertical series and aligning the Comcast spinoff with bite-sized dramatic content. CNBC and MS NOW are not part of the agreement.

  • America Made In Virginia: 250 Years Together premieres Saturday, July 4th on PBS. Here is the official logline: “Blending live performance, music, historic interpretation, and large-scale visual spectacle to create an inspiring national event that connects the nation’s founding to the present day, the special is designed as a celebration and a unifying national moment. Produced in partnership with VA250, the two-hour event will honor the past, engage the present, and inspire a season of civic renewal — all from the place where the path to independence began. From the first melodic sounds of a violin to the thunderous pyrotechnic finale, this is a program for all Americans to see themselves reflected in our nation’s continuing story.”

  • Chris & Martina: The Final Set premieres Friday, June 26th on Netflix. Here is a first look at the trailer. Here is the official logline for the film: "For nearly two decades, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert defined women’s tennis. A rivalry marked by contrasting styles, personalities, and philosophies, they pushed each other to historic heights and captivated a global audience. Years after their final match, life delivered a challenge neither could outplay: Cancer diagnosed at the same time. Through archival footage, intimate interviews, and behind the scenes access during treatment and recovery, the film explores how these elite competitors confront mortality, identity, and resilience. It reveals how the greatest rivalry in sports history evolved into something deeper, shaped by decades of shared history."

Plex Is Rolling Out A Social Platform

Plex announced today that announced it will be rolling out a range of social features over the next few months, including upgraded user-curated lists that can be shared and imported, public discussions, and a personalized rating system that predicts how much a viewer will enjoy a title.

New and Upcoming Plex Social Features include:

  • Lists: Users can create, manage and share personalized lists on Plex of any movie, show or episode. Additional enhancements launching later this year will include the ability to import existing lists from other platforms and being able to react and comment on friends' lists.

  • Discussions: A new community forum lets users post and comment directly on any movie, show, season, or episode, surfacing conversations around the content they love most.

  • Match Score: A proprietary compatibility score predicts how much any individual user will enjoy a given movie or show, tailored to their unique taste, past ratings and viewing history.

  • Content Reactions: Fans can go beyond star ratings with emoji-based reactions that capture how a title made them feel.

  • Follow Anything: Alerts keep entertainment fans in the loop on new activity tied to the lists, movies, shows, cast, and crew they follow.

  • Comment with Images: Users can react to reviews, discussions, and more with images, adding a new layer of expression to every conversation.

Overall, I think this has the potential to be a really compelling set of features and I am surprised that no platform has tried this before. But variations of this idea have been bubbling around for awhile. I remember maybe ten years ago getting a walkthrough of a similar set of features by an engineer at Philo. But for whatever reason, they decided not to move forward with the idea.
